Not just a Scrapper!

Hi everyone,

Lately I (Kristy) have become obsessed with pinterest (if you haven't discovered pinterest yet have a look www.pinterest.com). I just adore all the inspiration I can get from just a quick look whilst having a coffee. Well, one day whilst drooling over some wonderful pins, I came across a novel idea. Cake Pops. So yesterday I decided to give them ago. After quickly watching a youtube video on making them I felt I was ready! How wrong I was. I should mention, whilst my Grandmother was an amazing cake maker and decorator. I did not seem to get the baking gene.

Step One: Ingredients ASSEMBLE!!!
I required; one cake (pre-made and cooled), a tub of frosting, and my trusty mix master.

Step Two: Mix the ingredients together.
After crumbling the cake and putting it into the mixing bowl. I added frosting till the mixture just comes together. I unfortunately looked away at that point and kept adding frosting till the mix looked something like straight frosting...... Whoopsie.

Step three: Mould your balls.
Scoop even amounts of mix into your hands and roll them into a ball shape. Now that sounds wonderful... on paper. But I was unable to scoop even amounts. I also did not realise that the balls needed to be much smaller than I had made them. I made big manly sized cake pops..... Another whoopsie.

Step four: Coat your Cake Pops in Chocolate.
Melt some chocolate and dunk the balls in the chocolate till they are evenly coated. Refrigerate till required for eating. Once again, I learn by my errors. Due to my cake pop balls being so large and weighty, dunking them in chocolate was not achievable. I had to plonk them in the chocolate then roll them around till they were semi coated. I then pulled them out of the chocolate mix and rolled them in my hands (yes I had gloves on, it was too icky not to) until they were covered.

Step five: Enjoy your yummy Cake Pops.
Yes they are yummy. But BBQ skewers did not support these bad boys. For the purpose of the photo I was able to balance one quickly before it slid down onto my hand.

What I learnt whilst doing this.....
  • I am not a baker. End of Discussion.
  • Cake Pops need to be refrigerated during each step.
  • Putting lots of frosting in turns Cake Pops into Frosting Pops.
  • Frosting Pops are very heavy.
  • Frosting Pops are yummy, however, they have lots of sugar and the ceiling is not the place to be at 11 o'clock at night.
  • Skewers look much nicer, but corn cob holders support Frosting Pops much better.
  • Smaller..... They need to be smaller.

In summation..... Get someone else to make them :)

A while between posts.

Hello Everyone,
It has been quite a while between posts, hasn't it.
I can tell you that we have been super busy organising our August retreat, the monthly workshops, retreat workshops, and another surprise for 2012. We will reveal that at our August retreat.

With CHA this week, we have been very busy selecting all the gorgeous products to add to our "to get list".
Tim Holtz has a series of new stamps and a gorgeous line of stationary called District Market. If you haven't seen District Market just yet, I can tell you the Tote bag is just beautiful! It is definitely on my personal to buy list.
Prima has way to many products coming out to try to list. Lots of new flowers, say it in pearls, say it in crystals, and tools.
There is a new company called Authentique. Launched only this year, Authentique aim to "promote the belief being genuine is the only way to live! Our products reinforce this message through quotes, saying and the names of our Collections. They are designed to enhance the authentic side in each of us". Scrap with Friends is very excited to be stocking the Journey and Uncommon ranges. With more to come after CHA.
Bo Bunny have a lovely range on its way to us, called et Cetera. For those scrappers and card makers who love vintage colours, you will adore this range.
My Minds Eye, Pink Paislee, Tattered Angels and Teressa Collins have also been pre-ordered.
There is a heap of beautiful new products on their way to Scrap with Friends and they shall be revealed at our August retreat. Then in September at our workshop day.
Our August workshop day is just a few weeks away and we have 3 fantastic classes on offer.
In our Technique Class you will use a cuttlebug/ big shot to create 2 gorgeous cards perfect for Fathers Day. You will also create a beautiful pop up card, this technique can easily be transferred to a scrapbook layout.
In the layout class you will create a double page layout using some fun new products, bottle caps and mini tickets, you will also be using a Martha Stewart punch around the page set and a 6 x 6 inch paper pad.
Cricut Class has been opened up to those who don't have a cricut, you can purchase pre-cut kits. These are strictly on a pre-order basis to ensure no one is disappointed. This month you will be using the B is for Boy cartridge and you will learn how to plan your layout and cutting. This layout is titled "Here comes trouble" it could be used for any age of boy or a mischievous girl.
Please don't forget to let us know if you would like to attend so we can ensure we have enough kits for everyone.
We would love to see everyone at our August Workshop day, either to shop, scrap or chat.

Happy Scrapping everyone.

Changes at Scrap with Friends.

Hello Everyone,

Firstly thank you so much to all the ladies who came to our June class to scrap, learn and shop. It was a fantastic day and it was lovely to see so many ladies doing what we all love to do. We can not wait to see you all again on the 9th of July for another fantastic day.

We do have a few changes that have happened with Scrap with Friends.

Jennifer has decided to leave Scrap with Friends due to personal reasons. We wish Jennifer all the best in the future.
As sad as we are to see Jennifer leave, Scrap with Friends will and must go on.
As our workshop days are a little too busy for two people, Rose and myself warmly welcome Deb (you may have met Deb at our June class) to the Scrap with Friends team.
Deb is wonderfully talented and she will be helping design and teach classes.

This brings me to the change in our classes. There really isn't any. We are running the three classes. The new class we were introducing will be incorporated into the Cuttlebug class. Cuttlebug will now be known as a Technique Class and you will not need to have your own Cuttlebug or big shot to participate in the class. Of course it is helpful to have your own machine, but it is now no longer essential. We will be doing a Double Twisted Easel card in our July class. This is the same fold of card that Jennifer was going to teach you. But of course the adornments will be different. I have seen a sneak peak of the card and it is just as beautiful as Jennifer's.

Due to the feedback we received at the June class we are reducing the class fee.
It shall be a flat rate of $20 for the day plus your class kits.
This $20 will now include lunch (however if you have special dietary requirements we ask that you bring your own lunch along).  We will be jiggling the class times to allow for a break for lunch.

Next Monday we will be sending out our next newsletter which will include class details for July.

Please mark the 9th of July on your calendar as it is going to be fantastic,

Until then happy scrapping everyone,

Rose, Deb and Kristy.

Amazing workshops with Candy Rosenberg

******* UPDATE *******

Unfortunately we were unable to secure a booking for Candy as we didn't have the minimum numbers requrired. Sorry to those looking forward to the class.

Hello everyone,

I am very excited to announce we are looking to hold two workshops with the very talented Candy Rosenberg.

The following is taken from Candy's blog so you can learn a little about her.

"My name is Candy Rosenberg and I have been an artist since I was born, I was cutting paper the second I could fit scissors in my hand.  When I was first introduced to scrapbooking nearly 5 years ago now, I really did not take to it very easily.  It took quite awhile to get it figured out.  I remember walking into my first Creating Keepsakes Convention in Portland, Oregon.  I made the four hour trip with my 8 year old daughter  and when we first walked up to the convention area there was a roped off section of rolling totes.  I can remember looking at all the totes with stacks of other totes on top of them that went 4-5 feet high.  The first thing that came to mind was "are these women completely out of their minds"!
Little did I know that I would eventually join that group of crazy women!  I went one step further however as I started to find my niche.  I love to teach, I love playing with paper and making art and most especially inspiring others."

Candy currently is a member of the Graphic 45 design team and is a certified Graphic 45 educator.  You can visit her blog and see her creations for yourself.
http://candyscraps.typepad.com/
We are lucky enough that Candy has offered to do two workshops for us during our retreat on August 27th (that is the Saturday).
We couldn't possibly keep these workshops exclusively to our retreat attendees. So we invite you to come along and join us for a fantastic day of beautiful creating!

The cost of the day is $180 which includes, two workshops with Candy, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and a $25 voucher to spend at the Scrap with Friends store. If you would only like to do a single class, the cost is $90 and that includes lunch and the workshop. Each class runs for roughly 3 hours. The first class will begin at 10am with the second class beginning at 2pm (attendees for the first class are asked to be ready to scrap at 9:30am and the second class we ask to be ready for lunch at 1pm).

We will be starting the day at 9:30am with a welcome and a cuppa. Then you will create an incredible dream journal called 'No Place Like Home' this will be a Basically Bare mixed media album using the new Graphic 45 'Wizard of Oz' range. We shall then break for lunch and come back to complete a heritage/ ephemera Album called 'Timeless Memories'  this will be a Basically Bare mixed media album using Graphic 45 Steampunk range.

As we will be at our retreat at this time, the workshops will be held in Mulgoa which is near Penrith. This is a 2.5 hour drive south from Maitland.

We are asking for expressions of interest now as class sizes are limited, we ask for you to respond asap. You can register your interest by emailing us:
workshops@scrapwithfriends.com.au

We look forward to hearing from you.

Kristy's Baby is 1 and other things too.

What a wonderful day I have had today!!! My baby boy was 1 today. It is hard to believe that a year has gone by so quickly!!!
Aside from being totally focused on making today a scrap worthy event, I got thinking about all the things I would like to do before this time next year. Where I would like to be in my "career" (yep I mean scrapping). So with this in mind, I have been looking about and sourcing classes taught by some of the leaders in the scrapping industry. I have found this to be a little bit of an adventure. There are so many wonderful teachers/ educators who are heading down under in the next year. Some people are lesser known, others you know and adore. But whilst Rose goes to work liaising with their coordinator, Jennifer and I will continue to drool over blogs and get ideas that we can pass on to you.
But back to my boy's birthday. It was lovely to be able to celebrate it with some close friends and family. Jennifer and her husband were very generous and gave my son one of the noisier toys he received today. I have made a mental note to make Jennifer pay for any headaches I may get from that toy :)
Rose couldn't join us today as she is in Geelong with the very very insanely talented Melissa Kennedy (from Kaisercraft), Al Hannah and Sherry Mendoza (owner of http://www.yourcreativejourney.wordpress.com/). She is at a retreat called unmasked (http://www.unmasked-freetobeme.blogspot.com/).
From the sms' going back and forth Rose is having a fantastic time and learning some hot new techniques to show everyone at the Scrap with Friends - a new beginning retreat (retreat blog coming soon!!!). As well as finding some fantastic suppliers of some new products. Interested??? Keep your eyes on our blog :)
As the end of May nears I would like to remind everyone of our classes on June 4th. Our newsletter can be viewed here http://www.emailcontact.com/archive/view/7491/20635
It would be great if you are able to pop in and say hi. Shop up a storm or join us for a class or two. If you would like to RSVP before June 2nd that would be appreciated.
I would like to leave you all with a warm fuzzy of my very own :) A pic of my little man and me :)

Good night everyone, stay scrappy :)

June Workshops!!!

Hello Everyone,

We are very happy to let you all know that the second Scrap with Friends workshop day is almost here.
Due to demand, we have changed the date of June's workshops to be June 4th. We have also changed the times of the workshops so everyone has the opportunity to participate in any workshop throughout the day. As extra incentive to stay for all three classes, when you pay two class fees we will give you your third class fee for free. So that is just $30 (not including class kits)  for three classes and a day full of scrapping fun.

June means the end of financial year is close and that means end of year stock counts. So that means we need to have a sale!!! Lots of items will be heavily discounted. So come along and add to your stash.

We would also like to remind you about our Retreat in August. Places are filling fast, so if you are interested in coming along, please ensure that you let us know and pay your deposit before the July Class.

Please have a read through our classes on offer in June and let us know which class or classes you would like to do before June 2nd. Please email us at workshops@scrapwithfriends.com.au don't forget to let us know which classes you would like to do.

See you in June
Rose, Kristy & Jennifer

Cuttlebug: 9:30am - 11:30am

This month Jennifer will show you how to create with your cuttlebug/ Big Shot some lovely cards perfect for children!!!
For this class you will need to bring: glue, sanding block, sponge, greetings stamps, stickles and a silver and gold gel pen. If you are able to bring along a set of Scalloped Circle Nestabilities that will be a huge benefit. You will be using these in future classes as well as this one. If you would like to order a set through Scrap with Friends they will cost $29 for cuttlebug/ big shot attendees. You will need to place your order by Friday May 20th to ensure delivery by the June class.
Kit cost is $10 + class fee.

Layout Class: 10am - 5pm & 12noon - 2pm

Rose really pushes scrapbook layouts to the limits with this layout. The page may appear simple at first glance, but once you open the mini album you will appreciate folds more than ever. It isn't as difficult as you might think. This class is a must as with the technique you will learn you can apply to card making too. There are three kits to choose from; Baby Girl, Baby Boy and Teen Girl.
For this class you will need; a hole punch and eyelet setter/ crop-a-dile, paper trimmer, scissors, glue, tape, craft knife, ruler, bone scorer and a cutting mat. If you have a scoring board that will be a huge help.
Kit cost is $15 + Class fee.

Cricut Club: 2:30pm - 4:30pm
In this month’s cricut club we will focus on creating images with layers. We will also be layering with chalkboard from Tattered Angels. We will explore how to use your cutting mat effectively whilst cutting an image with multiple layers.
For this class you will need the “create a critter” cartridge, stickles, glue, tape, scissors, paper trimmer, mounting foam and your normal scrapping tools.
Kit cost is $15 + Class fee.

Don't forget to let us know which classes you would like to attend. RSVP before June 2nd

What a weekend!!!

My goodness I am ready for bed :) This weekend was fantastic!!! A few great friends, a lot of amazing coffee and heaps and heaps of creative energy. :)
One thing I have learnt is that my "mojo" comes from the other wonderfully creative ladies I know. This weekend I (Kristy) was able to spend it with four and a half (yes, one lady is pregnant) other wonderfully creative ladies.
So what did we get up to??? Well planning our next few classes of course!!! Can you see some sneaky pics of those classes... You sure can :) But not tonight ;) I will post some photos in the morning and post our newsletter for you to enjoy. There are some delicious ranges coming up from Kaisercraft and yes we are taking pre-orders!!! Also, Rose and I attended a Graphic 45 workshop so we will have some photos from that to show you as well!!! Plus some amazing kits from some very very talented ladies.
Until the morning though....
Goodnight and dream scrappy dreams :)

Kaisercraft Design Team Application!!!

So, I am finally doing this!!! I can't believe it, I have worked up the courage to submit my work to my fave company.
Now this application comes with a small amount of personal sacrifice, the clumsy lass that I am, whilst making a photo box managed to put a lovely 1 inch long slice in my leg when I slipped with my craft knife. So lots of band-aids and some paw paw cream, and I am right as rain :) It was a great reason to have a coffee too :)

Now on to my submission!!!

Altered Art::

Beyond the Page::

*****
Layouts::

Special Memory:: Kaisercraft Secret Bird Society.
This is a Hybrid layout, as my printer decided to breakdown this evening. Lucky Photoshop Elements is always ready to go. I inserted the picture over the layout.

*****

Little Me:: House of Three Parisian Anthology
I loved doing this layout as the papers were blank before I started. They had some resist paterns over the top and lent themself to Glimmer Mist so nicely. Very messy though.
*****

Treasured Memory:: Kaisercraft English Rose
My year 10 formal photo. Such a lovely memory of that night, so I chose a lovely paper range. Also, when I was 15 I was beautifully innocent. I feel English Rose is a very beautifully innocent range.

*****

In awe of you:: Kaisercraft Peek - a - boo range
Quite simply, who isn't in awe of their child. I love this cute layout.
*****
Mini Album::

Dream:: Kaisercraft Acrylic Album and Secret Bird Society papers.
Just simple and sweet. I am going to fill it with pictures of my little man sleeping...

Well it is almost midnight and this application needs to be submitted before then!!! So wish me luck and cross everything you have two of :)

Hugs from Kristy xx

Welcome to Scrap with Friends

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to Scrap with Friends' official Blog.

Scrap with Friends came to be, when Rose needed to do some scrapping. Not being able to find a place where friends could meet and scrap, whilst having access to a shop (for those essentials you often find you are missing during a crop). Jennifer and Kristy soon came on board as they also have a love of scrapping, card making and chatting with their friends. The three put their heads together and decided that a day of scrapping with their friends would be a fantastic idea. Jennifer could teach ladies how to use their Cuttlebug/ Big Shot effectively, Kristy could help ladies to use their Cricut without fearing it and Rose, with her inventive layouts, would guide her friends in new techniques and creating fabulous layouts. At the end of the meeting, Rose smiling said, "I love to Scrap with Friends." We all agreed that scrapping on your own was great. But getting together to Scrap with Friends was unbeatable.
