Not just a Scrapper!

Hi everyone,

Lately I (Kristy) have become obsessed with pinterest (if you haven't discovered pinterest yet have a look www.pinterest.com). I just adore all the inspiration I can get from just a quick look whilst having a coffee. Well, one day whilst drooling over some wonderful pins, I came across a novel idea. Cake Pops. So yesterday I decided to give them ago. After quickly watching a youtube video on making them I felt I was ready! How wrong I was. I should mention, whilst my Grandmother was an amazing cake maker and decorator. I did not seem to get the baking gene.

Step One: Ingredients ASSEMBLE!!!
I required; one cake (pre-made and cooled), a tub of frosting, and my trusty mix master.

Step Two: Mix the ingredients together.
After crumbling the cake and putting it into the mixing bowl. I added frosting till the mixture just comes together. I unfortunately looked away at that point and kept adding frosting till the mix looked something like straight frosting...... Whoopsie.

Step three: Mould your balls.
Scoop even amounts of mix into your hands and roll them into a ball shape. Now that sounds wonderful... on paper. But I was unable to scoop even amounts. I also did not realise that the balls needed to be much smaller than I had made them. I made big manly sized cake pops..... Another whoopsie.

Step four: Coat your Cake Pops in Chocolate.
Melt some chocolate and dunk the balls in the chocolate till they are evenly coated. Refrigerate till required for eating. Once again, I learn by my errors. Due to my cake pop balls being so large and weighty, dunking them in chocolate was not achievable. I had to plonk them in the chocolate then roll them around till they were semi coated. I then pulled them out of the chocolate mix and rolled them in my hands (yes I had gloves on, it was too icky not to) until they were covered.

Step five: Enjoy your yummy Cake Pops.
Yes they are yummy. But BBQ skewers did not support these bad boys. For the purpose of the photo I was able to balance one quickly before it slid down onto my hand.

What I learnt whilst doing this.....
  • I am not a baker. End of Discussion.
  • Cake Pops need to be refrigerated during each step.
  • Putting lots of frosting in turns Cake Pops into Frosting Pops.
  • Frosting Pops are very heavy.
  • Frosting Pops are yummy, however, they have lots of sugar and the ceiling is not the place to be at 11 o'clock at night.
  • Skewers look much nicer, but corn cob holders support Frosting Pops much better.
  • Smaller..... They need to be smaller.

In summation..... Get someone else to make them :)

A while between posts.

Hello Everyone,
It has been quite a while between posts, hasn't it.
I can tell you that we have been super busy organising our August retreat, the monthly workshops, retreat workshops, and another surprise for 2012. We will reveal that at our August retreat.

With CHA this week, we have been very busy selecting all the gorgeous products to add to our "to get list".
Tim Holtz has a series of new stamps and a gorgeous line of stationary called District Market. If you haven't seen District Market just yet, I can tell you the Tote bag is just beautiful! It is definitely on my personal to buy list.
Prima has way to many products coming out to try to list. Lots of new flowers, say it in pearls, say it in crystals, and tools.
There is a new company called Authentique. Launched only this year, Authentique aim to "promote the belief being genuine is the only way to live! Our products reinforce this message through quotes, saying and the names of our Collections. They are designed to enhance the authentic side in each of us". Scrap with Friends is very excited to be stocking the Journey and Uncommon ranges. With more to come after CHA.
Bo Bunny have a lovely range on its way to us, called et Cetera. For those scrappers and card makers who love vintage colours, you will adore this range.
My Minds Eye, Pink Paislee, Tattered Angels and Teressa Collins have also been pre-ordered.
There is a heap of beautiful new products on their way to Scrap with Friends and they shall be revealed at our August retreat. Then in September at our workshop day.
Our August workshop day is just a few weeks away and we have 3 fantastic classes on offer.
In our Technique Class you will use a cuttlebug/ big shot to create 2 gorgeous cards perfect for Fathers Day. You will also create a beautiful pop up card, this technique can easily be transferred to a scrapbook layout.
In the layout class you will create a double page layout using some fun new products, bottle caps and mini tickets, you will also be using a Martha Stewart punch around the page set and a 6 x 6 inch paper pad.
Cricut Class has been opened up to those who don't have a cricut, you can purchase pre-cut kits. These are strictly on a pre-order basis to ensure no one is disappointed. This month you will be using the B is for Boy cartridge and you will learn how to plan your layout and cutting. This layout is titled "Here comes trouble" it could be used for any age of boy or a mischievous girl.
Please don't forget to let us know if you would like to attend so we can ensure we have enough kits for everyone.
We would love to see everyone at our August Workshop day, either to shop, scrap or chat.

Happy Scrapping everyone.

This amazing card uses the very attractive double twisted easel card fold. Don't be concerned by the long name. The fold is easy once you learn it. Making the card beautiful is the fun part. You will be distressing, inking and using string beads. The papers are from Melissa Frances' beautiful new range attic treasures.

Another month and another awesome inspiring layout, this month by Deb!
This month you will receive enough product to create a fantastic layout where you will learn how to create a mini album. This mini album is perfect for special pictures or personal journaling you would rather people not see. You will get to make a gorgeous twisted ribbon rose and more string beads to help accentuate the flourishes on the beautiful Timeless range by Teressa Collins. Distressing is also heavily featured on this layout.

Changes at Scrap with Friends.

Hello Everyone,

Firstly thank you so much to all the ladies who came to our June class to scrap, learn and shop. It was a fantastic day and it was lovely to see so many ladies doing what we all love to do. We can not wait to see you all again on the 9th of July for another fantastic day.

We do have a few changes that have happened with Scrap with Friends.

Jennifer has decided to leave Scrap with Friends due to personal reasons. We wish Jennifer all the best in the future.
As sad as we are to see Jennifer leave, Scrap with Friends will and must go on.
As our workshop days are a little too busy for two people, Rose and myself warmly welcome Deb (you may have met Deb at our June class) to the Scrap with Friends team.
Deb is wonderfully talented and she will be helping design and teach classes.

This brings me to the change in our classes. There really isn't any. We are running the three classes. The new class we were introducing will be incorporated into the Cuttlebug class. Cuttlebug will now be known as a Technique Class and you will not need to have your own Cuttlebug or big shot to participate in the class. Of course it is helpful to have your own machine, but it is now no longer essential. We will be doing a Double Twisted Easel card in our July class. This is the same fold of card that Jennifer was going to teach you. But of course the adornments will be different. I have seen a sneak peak of the card and it is just as beautiful as Jennifer's.

Due to the feedback we received at the June class we are reducing the class fee.
It shall be a flat rate of $20 for the day plus your class kits.
This $20 will now include lunch (however if you have special dietary requirements we ask that you bring your own lunch along).  We will be jiggling the class times to allow for a break for lunch.

Next Monday we will be sending out our next newsletter which will include class details for July.

Please mark the 9th of July on your calendar as it is going to be fantastic,

Until then happy scrapping everyone,

Rose, Deb and Kristy.

A rainy Tuesday night.

It is a very very rainy Tuesday night. The television is once again disapointing, bub is in bed, husband is at work, so what is a girl to do....... Golly, do I really need to ask that question :)
Well, I have decided to try my hand at a mini album. Made using paper bags. I am hoping that it will look as great in person as it does in my head lol. I will be using a super cute range by Imaginisce called Animal Crackers.
Which will be avaliable at the Scrap with Friends workshop day (this Saturday).

Have a great rainy night everyone :)
